It was March,27th 2009,we were on our way to Delhi for an onwards journey towards Uttarakhand/Uttaranchal for a vacation. It was on 28th March we reached Haridwar where we hired a Jeep for visit to Gangotri.
It was on 29th March we reached Uttar Kashi which was unavoidable for driving prohibitted in the Himalayan region after 8 pm.Uttarkashi is a Himalayan town where one can go shopping for the provisions( as we were supposed to stay for a couple of nights at Gangotri ) and in March it is an off season and few people around.
Early next morning we left for Gangotri from Uttarkashi,it was about 100 kilometers journey.I have uploaded the pictures that clicked on the way which can be viewed on the following link:

If you ever want to plan your visit to Gangotri in an off season you should avoid trek to Gaumukh as there are no facilities for stay in a hotel and no restaurants where you can take a meal, also dont forget to get the prior permission from the District Magistrate at Uttarkashi for your visit to Gangotri.
Since we did not take the permission we were allowed to stay only for a night by the local police, remember it was my third visit to Gangotri and on previous ocassions we did not have this problem. On reaching there we stayed at Shri Krishna Ashram.
The places of interest around are Gangotri Temple,Surya Kund waterfall,Pandava Caves also walking along the Glacier is a wonderful event where you can feel the peace in the midst of mother nature.
Basically Gangotri is also familiar for the trek to Gaumukh which is about 26 kilometers. The trekking is allowed after Akshaya Tritiya on 27th April when the Char Dham Yatra begins.
